Why I Prefer Percy Jackson over Harry Potter

One of my favorite hobbies is reading, and out of the many book series' I have read, Percy Jackson and Harry Potter are among my favorites. However, Harry Potter seems to be a lot more popular than Percy Jackson, but that has never made much sense to me. I've always preferred Percy Jackson, albeit by a small margin. Here is why:

One reason I prefer Percy Jackson is because the worldbuilding is much better: Greek mythology and history are so perfectly interwoven into a modern world, it almost makes you believe it could be real. With Harry Potter, worldbuilding is less than ideal. There are many plotholes that don't make much sense, such as, how do the children who go to Hogwarts learn how to read, write, and do math? If all that is taught at Hogwarts is magic, how do they learn basic life skills?

Another reason I prefer Percy Jackson (and this reason is much more debatable), is because the plot is much more engaging. It isn't filled with convoluted subplots and unnecessary details. While some of the subplots in Harry Potter are enjoyable and actually contribute to the plot in some way, many subplots feel like they were written just to fill pages, leading to disengagement, and sometimes even boredom.

However, all of this is just my opinion, I am definitely not saying Percy Jackson doesn't have its flaws. There are somethings Harry Potter does much better than Percy Jackson. For example, Harry Potter's tone and writing style matures over time, while Percy Jackson's reading level stays stagnant, at around a middle-school level.

That's all for this post!

If anybody agrees or disagrees with my, tell me why in the comments!

Thanks!
