Many families have been impacted by the terrible respiratory disease COVID-19, otherwise known as the coronavirus. However, I find that, strangely, the impact of the coronavirus has helped me in many ways.
When my school first shut down in March of 2020, I found myself in a strange situation: an extended spring break, and no proper school for the remainder of the year. I was more or less completely stripped of social interaction of anyone outside my family. This situation gave me a lot of time, which I intended to take full advantage of.
When summer started, I was worried that I would fall behind on my education, so I prepared for the following year of school by reviewing the previous year's material, and learning about the next year's material so it would be easier the second time around. However, do not be mistaken in thinking that I only spent time studying. I worked on a large variety of hobbies that summer, I would read and re-read book series' such as the Hunger Games, Harry Potter, and Percy Jackson. I also had plenty of time to play my favorite video games such as the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. I would go biking in nearby parks and up hills with a small handful of friends in my neighborhood every week, and I would practice playing the tabla every day.
When school started, I felt fully prepared to do well in the subjects I signed up for, and this gave me a considerable amount of free time. In this free time, I ended up learning how to cook and bake things such as Indian chai, cookies, roti, etc.
This pandemic has impacted every single person on this planet, and many people have lost loved ones and have been negatively impacted by this virus. However, it had an overall positive impact on me, and has helped me grow and develop mentally and physically more than any period in my life ever has, and I am grateful for this opportunity.
